General Description
Location: Basrah is located on the SW side of the Shatt al Arab waterway in Al Basrah Reach.
General overview: Heavily affected by the Iran - Iraq War the port although in operation, is not widely used. Due to that the port handles minor cargoes. The port consists of 15 berths in 3,000m quay, around 8 of them do not operated and is used as storage for defunct equipment.
Handling Equipment:
Berth No. 14 is operated by Hutchinson using one mobile crane (capacity 65t). Other equipment involve a Reach Stacker (50t) and 2 Forklifts (5t).

The port can handle 5,000t (capacity 600 TEU).
The principal exports are crude petroleum, dates, grain, wool, hides and skins, cotton and live animals; the chief imports are cotton piece goods, sugar, tea, machinery, electrical machinery and motor vehicles.
