General Description
Location: Liverpool is located at the mouth of the Mersey River on the SE coast of Nova Scotia. General overview: The port of Liverpool is one of the few along this stretch of coastline that has a year round navigation season. There is a fish plant and a shipyard in the port. The port area is primarily located on the W bank and includes facilities at Brooklyn located across the river on the E bank. Brooklyn permits a deeper draught than Liverpool and is the site of the Bowater-Mersey Papermill. Traffic figures: Approx 250,000t of cargo handled are handled annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Area. For ships over 100m in length, Winter Dec 16 to Feb 15, Summer Feb 16 to Dec 15. For ships of 100m or less in length, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: Brooklyn: Max draught 7.62m.
