General Description
Location: Nieuw Nickerie is situated on the Nickerie River, 4.8km from the entrance. General overview: There are two berths on the SW side of the river for general cargo and three for petroleum products. The main exports are bananas and rice. Imports: Cement, general cargo, fertiliser and oil. The district commissioner officially acts as harbour master, but vessel movements and pilotage are handled by Nickerie harbour office. Traffic figures: Approximately 90 vessels visit the port annually. Load line zone: Tropical. Max size: LOA 163m, draught approx 4.9m HW. Largest vessel handled: LOA 114m, 5,924DWT.
