General Description
Location: Providence, Rhode Island, is situated at the head of Narrangansett Bay, 23nm from the open sea and also includes the terminal at Quonsett/Davisville, also known as North Kingstown, which is located approx 8nm from the sea buoy. General overview: Provport Inc (Provport), formerly known as the City of Providence Municipal Piers/Wharf and/or Providence Terminal, has seven active piers with approximately 1,300m of available berthing. The combined port terminal is 42ha, combining the vessel piers, warehouses, tenant businesses and outside storage area. There are also many private piers and wharves. Exports include scrap iron and used vehicles. Main imports are coal, salt and LPG. Traffic figures: Approx 300-400 vessels visit the port annually. Load line zone: Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Seasonal Area for ships of 100m or less in length, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: Draught 12.0m.
