Location: Vathi (also called Vathy or Port Vathi) is the main harbour of the island of Ithaca in the Ionian Sea of Greece and lies at the head of a long inlet on the E coast, four miles S of Kioni and five miles S of Frikes
General overview: Vathi is the largest port on Meganisi. It hosts professional and private recreational boats, fishing boats and small boats, as well as passenger ferries. The harbour provides berthing for around 12-15 yachts in its inner, old harbour and 68 in the marina of Odyseas Marina, which has been established in the outer harbour. A further 20 yachts can moor on the pontoon of the Karnayio Taverna in a small cove immediately NW of the harbour. The harbour has a depth of 15.0m, with an entrance of 198m in width. Discharging is effected by use of the ship's gear.
The ferry port of Vathi connects the Greek island of Samos with the Greek mainland (Kavala, Piraeus and Thessaloniki) and Turkey. Other ferry routes exist to the islands of Ikaria, Chios, Fournoi, Samos, Leros, Limnos, Lesbos, Oinousses, Mykonos, Tinos, Patmos, Kos, Rhodes and Syros.
