General Description
Location: Auckland Harbour is located on the E coast of North Island. The port of Auckland is situated on the S side of Waitemata Harbour, on the shoreline of Auckland City. General overview: Auckland is New Zealand's major port consisting of 18 commercial berths, handling most types of cargo and cruise ships. The Port of Onehunga and Marsden Point Oil Terminal are under the Ports of Auckland authority, see separate entries. Principal imports: Containers, phosphates, sulphur, iron and steel, fresh fruit, motor vehicles, machinery, chemicals, general cargo, wheat, raw sugar, fuel and vegetable oils. Principal exports: Dairy produce, fruit and vegetables, wool, hides, meats, kiwi fruit, sugar, steel, timber, paper products and general cargo. Traffic figures: Approx 1,620 vessels, 13,300,000t of cargo, including 4,300,000t of break bulk cargo, 8, 431,000TEU, and 100,000 passengers handled annually. Load line zone: Summer. Max size: LOA 320m, max draught 12.5m CD plus height of tide less UKC. Fergusson X Berth: There are no restrictions for length or beam. Vessels over 244m should be referred to Manager Marine Services prior to arrival. Largest vessel handled: "Queen Mary 2'' 148,528GT, LOA 345m; draught 10.3m.
