General Description
Location: The Dardanelles Strait (Canakkale) is the stretch of water connecting the Aegean Sea to the Sea of Marmara and the Bosphorus is the stretch of water connecting the Sea of Marmara to the Black Sea. The right of free passage is enshrined in the Montreux Convention 1936. Traffic figures: Approx 50,000 vessels transit the Straits annually, along with ferries carrying approx 1,000,000 passengers annually. Load line zone: Summer Zone. Max size: LOA 300m or more requires consultation with the Administration prior to fixing a voyage through the Straits. Max Airdraught 58m.
