General Description
Location: Dafeng is located centrally on the coast of Jiangsu Province. General overview: The new port acts as a transhipment facility for Shanghai and Lianyungang as well as being a medium sized international transit port in its own right. Coal is the main cargo handled by the port. Dafeng is now a Chinese strategic distribution handling centre for this, handling not only coal from domestic ports but also imported coal from Russia, Indonesia, Australia and the USA. The Dafeng coastline is an area of considerable land reclamation with ambitious, ongoing plans for new port facilities. There are two piers, each stretching out to sea approximately 2.0nm. Pier head 1 forms an 'L' shape and Pier head 2 forms a 'T' shape. A third pier head area is under construction. Traffic figures: Approx 304,000TEU handled annually. Coal throughput reached 3,600,000t in 2010. Load line zone: China Sea Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical 21 Jan to 30 Apr, Summer 1 May to 20 Jan. Max size: 70,000DWT.
