General Description
Location: The port of Gabes is located approx 60km W of Djerba.
General overview: The port offers a sheltered harbour surrounded by two breakwaters. The principal cargoes consist of grain, cement, fertiliser, chemical products and oil.
The commercial port of Gabes, the activity of which is characterized by an industrial purpose, is essentially intended for the transit of chemical products on behalf of the neighboring factories set up in the industrial estate of Gabès.
This bulk traffic comprises above all sulphur and ammonia for import and phosphoric acid and phosphate fertilizer for export.
Traffic figures: Approx 400 vessels visit the port and 4,100,000t of cargo handled annually.
