General Description
Location: The port facilities of Glasgow are located on both banks of the River Clyde some 18nm above the Firth of Clyde (Tail of the Bank). General overview: The port is part of Clydeport and is comprised of tidal docks and riverside berths handling most types of tankers, bulk carriers, Ro-Ro and general cargo vessels. All berths are "Safe Aground". Traffic figures: Approx 12,480,000t of cargo, 40,000TEU's and 370 are handled annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: King George V Dock: Vessels up to 9.0m FW may be accommodated subject to consultation with the Harbour Master. Shieldhall: Riverside Berth can accept vessels with max LOA 230m, beam 32m and draught 9.4m. Rothsay Dock: LOA 160m, beam 20m (up to 23m with approval), draught 6.7m (8.7m possible on HW).
