General Description
Location: Located on the W central coast of Trinidad in the Gulf of Paria. General overview: Point Lisas Ports consists of the Industrial Port, handling a variety of solid and liquid bulk materials in addition to containerised and general cargo and Lisas Point Port (Yara Trinidad (ex Hydro Agri)) about 2nm S of the main port, which handles LPG, ammonia and bulk sugar cargoes. Point Lisas Port is a "landlord" port. The harbour and specialised terminals are vested in the National Energy Corporation; the port lands are owned by Point Lisas Industrial Port Development Corporation Ltd, (PLIPDECO). PLIPDECO provides cargo handling services at cargo/container berths (Nos 1-5) and harbour managements services, while relevant companies operate the various specialised liquid and dry bulk terminals. Traffic figures: Approx 2,720,000t of cargo, including 147,000TEU and 1,600 vessels handled annually. Load line zone: Tropical. Max size: Industrial Port: LOA 245m, draught 11.6m LW (allowing 10% UKC), 77,000DWT. Yara Trinidad (ex Hydro Agri): LOA 220m, draught 11.5m.
