General Description
Location: Al Mukalla (Khalf) is located halfway along Yemen's southern coastline, approx 270nm E of Aden. General overview: Khalf Harbour lies 2km to the E of the town of Mukalla. It is W of Ras Kodar in the bay between Ras Burum and Ras Koder/Ras Marbet and below Jebel Al Qara, which protects Mukalla from the NE monsoon between Oct-May. Mukalla has 2 cargo berths and a fisheries quay. Cargo is also worked into lighters from the anchorage between Oct and May. Al Mukalla Oil Terminal, a CBM consisting of two mooring buoys situated at the seaward end of a submarine pipeline, lies approx 0.125nm offshore, close SE of Khalf Harbour. Major commodities: Foodstuffs, cement, oilfield equipment, drums of oil and general cargo. Traffic figures: Approx 245 vessels and 1,194,842t of cargo handled annually. Load line zone: Arabian Sea Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical Sep 1 to May 31, Summer Jun 1 to Aug 31. Max size: Wharf: LOA 160m (increased length possible with special permission), beam 20m (if over extra port dues are levied), draught 8.5m and 15,000DWT (Up to 20,000DWT accepted with increased port dues). CBM: LOA 178m, draught 9.4m, 20,000DWT.
