General Description
Location: Sundsvall is situated at the mouth of the River Selanger which flows into the head of Sundsvallfjarden. General overview: A well sheltered port with an easy entrance and broad and deep fairways. The port is operated all year round but ice conditions prevail between Dec and Apr. Facilities are available for Ro-Ro vessels, general cargo vessels, tankers, LPG carriers. Sundsvall Hamn comprises of two main areas: 1. Tunadalshalmen, just N of Sundsvall town, which handles approx 2,300,000t of cargo annually. 2. Vinskhrodde Oil Terminal, just S of Sundsvall, which receives approx 550,000t of refined products annually. It is one of the largest harbours in northern Sweden. Traffic figures: Approx 736 vessels handle 4,500,000t of cargo annually. Load line zone: Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Zone for ships of 100m or less. Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: Max Draught 12.3m. Largest vessel handled: "Rio Sun" 74,832DWT tanker.
