General Description
Location: The port (also known as Lisahally Port) is situated at Lisahally on the E bank of the River Foyle near its confluence with Lough Foyle, approx 28km from open sea. General overview: The private Shell jetty is 6km further upstream from the main port complex with private jetties for the power station, Nie and Du Pont being 1km downstream. Cruise ships visit the port, berthing alongside or, for the larger cruise ships, anchoring off Greencastle. Imports: Chemical products, chipboard, coal, grain, oil, cement, logs and timber. Exports: Potatoes, scrap and wood pulp (logs) and coal. Traffic figures: The port handles approx1,620,000t of cargo annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: LOA 190m, beam 26m, draught (HWOST) 9.3m, airdraught 39m (HWOST). Largest vessel handled: "Marina", 32,500DWT, dry cargo, draught 9.0m.
