General Description
Location: Masao is located on the N shore of Mindanao Island, in the Bay of Butuan. General overview: Masao also encompasses the subport of Butuan, located on the Agusan River.
PPA Port Management Office of Nasipit covers the port of Nasipit (baseport), port of Butuan (terminal port) and port of Masao (terminal port).
Anchorage areas along the coast from Diwata Point to Bolo-Bolo Point and the banks of Agusan River and all loading and unloading points within the political boundaries of Agusan del Norte Province, Island of Mindanao, Philippines.
The main cargoes handled by the Butuan port are lumber, falcatta logs, matchwood, flour, fertiliser, sugar, salt, bottled cargo, rolling cargoes, machinery and equipment, poles and piles, vegetable oil, fuel oil, hardware, veneer, plywood, etc.
The main cargoes handled at Masao are logs, matchwood, fuel oil, lumber, plywood, veneer, hardware, containerized cargoes, machinery and equipment, tail end waste. Traffic figures: Approx 700,000t of cargo are handled annually.
Load line zone: Tropical. Max size: The S entrance to Agusan River is 0.75nm wide at its narrowest part and there is a depth of 2.7m over the bar at LW and from 3.7 to 4.3m at ordinary HW.
The bar at the N entrance has a depth of only 0.9m over it, and is not used.
