Location: The port of Newport lies within the entrance to River Usk. General overview: Principal cargoes handled are timber, steel, aluminium, forest products, fruit, vegetables, motor vehicles, cement, scrap, animal feedstuff, coal and general cargo. Traffic figures: Approx 400 vessels and 2,730,000t of cargo are handled at the port annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: South Lock: (Entrance to Alexandra Docks) LOA 244m, beam 30.1m, draught 10.5m. North Dock: Passage 18.2m wide, vessels max LOA 122m, beam 17m and draught 7.6m.
