General Description
Location: Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is situated in the N of Avachinskaya Bay, on the Pacific coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula.
General overview: The port mainly handles coastal traffic. Cargoes handled are general and bulk cargo, timber, refrigerated cargo, containers, machinery, coal, clinker, grain and iron. Timber, scrap and obsidian are exported from the port.
From the end of Nov or mid-Dec until the beginning of May, the harbour is ice-bound, but icebreakers work in the severe months and it is easily kept open.
