General Description
Location: Porto di Vibo Valencia Marina lies on the Calabrian coast of Italy, along the ‘instep’ of the peninsula, around 45 miles NE of the Straits of Messina.
General overview: The harbour is located at the centre of 3 provinces of the Calabria region, serving the interland of Catanzaro, Cosenza and Reggio Calabria. The port which is enclosed by two moles with an entrance facing E, is considered safe even if SW winds may create surf inside it. The harbour is subject to silting and periodic dredging is necessary. Calata Papandrea and Calata Buccarelli are quayed on their E sides and small vessels can berth alongside them. Local knowledge is required. The W and N sides of the harbour are quayed by Banchinas Fiume, Pola, Tripoli and Bengasi. Molo Gen Malta, and its extension Molo Cortese, extend NW from the shore, 0.45nm E of the root of Banchina Fiume.
There are several pontoons in the SE part of the harbour where a yacht may berth. in 3 marinas. Stella del Sud, Marina Carmelo and Marina Azzurra are the main operators.
