General Description
Location: Tartous lies approx 35km N of the Lebanese border. General overview: A major commercial harbour with facilities for handling various cargoes including containers, bulk minerals, liquids and grain, general and Ro-Ro traffic. It is also a naval base and a tourist centre. The port offers a sheltered harbour, protected by two long breakwaters, consisting four basins separated by Moles A, B and C, with approx 5,130m of berthing space. Approx 4nm N of the harbour is the Tartous Oil terminal and oil refinery, exporting crude oil via the two CBM mooring buoys. Traffic figures: Approx 2,750 vessels, 12,000,000t of cargo and 52,600TEU handled annually. Load line zone: Summer. Max size: Harbour: Draught 12.2m, 65,000DWT. CBM's: LOA 280m, draught 15.8m, 120,000DWT.
