General Description
Location: The Port of Tsuruga is situated in Wakasa Bay on Honshu, in the Sea of Japan.
General overview: The Port of Tsuruga is protected by three breakwaters and is divided into five areas that handle a variety of bulk cargoes. Reclamation work is currently underway in the central harbor area.
There are five wharves in the southeast of the harbor, from northeast to Southwest:
Dunhe cement wharf is used for cement and related products, and has a handling capacity of up to 12,000 tons.
Jinqi wharf is used for general cargo, mainly for forest products, such as lumber and woodchips.
The railway terminal is used for intermodal transportation, serving as a hub for container transport and as a marshaling yard for railway cars.
Penglai wharf is used for general cargo, such as steel products, machinery, and other industrial materials.
Kawasaki Yisong wharf is used for the transport of new cars, trucks, and buses, as well as other vehicles and heavy equipment. The wharf is equipped with two berths for car carriers and a large storage area for vehicles awaiting shipment.
The port handles a variety of ship types, such as cargo and passenger ferries, container ships, RoRo ships, and dry bulk ships, which transport general merchandise, coal, lumber, cars, buses, and trucks.
