General Description
Location: Felixstowe is located at the mouth of Harwich Harbour on the E coast of England.
General overview: Felixstowe's excellent road/rail communications together with modern and fully equipped cargo handling facilities has made it the UK's premier container port.
Major redevelopment is under way at the port.
Phase 1 of Felixstowe South Project has been completed giving two new deep water berths, Nos 8 and 9, which can handle the world's largest container vessels.
Phase 2 is for a third deep water berth to be constructed at the Landguard Terminal.
There are also two Ro-Ro and seven deep water container berths.
Traffic figures: Approx 3,400 vessels, 25,756,000t of cargo and 3,200,000TEU handled annually.
Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.
Max size: There are no restrictions on length, draught 15.0m.
IMO Class 1 (Berths 8 & 9): Require the MSDS and DGN’s of the cargo. Approval of the Harbour Master needed prior to allowing vessel’s arrival.
