General Description
Location: Hafnarfjordur is located on the SW coast of Iceland, 7nm SW of Reykjavik. General overview: Hafnarfjordur harbour is sheltered by an outer breakwater 400m in length. The port handles general cargo, timber, salt, oil, LPG, jet fuel, marine diesel and exports fish products, scrap and general cargo. Straumsvik harbour, 2nm SE, part of Hafnarfjordur Harbour Authority, is sheltered by a breakwater, 300m in length. The port is mainly used for the aluminium trade and import of LPG but also has a general/bulk cargo berth. Traffic figures: Approx 480 fishing vessels and 310 other vessels. Total 935,261t of cargo are handled annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone I, Winter Oct 16 to Apr 15, Summer Apr 16 to Oct 15. Max size: Hafnarfjordur: Max draught for arriving oil tankers 9.0m, LOA 190m, 32,477DWT. Max draught for other vessels 8.5m. Largest vessel handled: "Virgo", 28,840DWT tanker. Straumsvik: Largest vessel handled: "China May", 74,000 DWT.
