General Description
Location : The Port of Haldia is situated on the W bank of the Hooghly River, 63nm from the pilot station at Sandheads, in the Bay of Bengal.
General overview: The Port of Haldia (also known as Haldia Dock Complex) comprises three river oil jetties, two river barge jetties and one wet dock system having 14 berths. Tata Steel Limited also operates a terminal.
The Dock Complex consists of:
- 12 Berths
- 3 Oil Jetties
- 3 Barge Jetties (For Oil carrying barges)
The average discharge rate for Bulk Cargo at Haldia is:
- 20,000 Mts per day with HMC cranes
- 1,500 Mts per hook/shift in other berths with ship cranes.
There is a container terminal designed to handle trade otherwise destined for Kolkata which due to the shallow depths of the upper Hooghly, is now forwarded by inland transport.
Traffic figures : Approx. 35,000,000t of cargo, 150,000TEUs handled annually.
