General overview: A total port area of 201.5ha is enclosed by breakwaters with 2 entrances providing access. A major container transshipment port, which is currently undergoing extensive container berth expansion to seaward of present port. Load line zone: Tropical. IMO: Only local Import and on board in transit is allowed. Need to obtain Sri Lanka Ministry of Defence (MOD) permission prior to vessel's arrival. MOD will take 3 working days for clearance, subject to the documents in order. IMO onboard in transit subject to prior approval from authorities, transhipment not allowed in Sri Lanka ports.
