General Description
Location: Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (also known as JNPT or Nhava Sheva) is situated along the eastern shore of Mumbai harbour, SE of Elephanta Island.
General overview: The Port of Nhava Sheva is the major container handling poer in India. Although the port was initially planned and constructed for handling dry bulk cargo and containerized cargo, the port facilities have been upgraded for handling containers, vehicles, cement, project cargoes and liquid bulk cargoes of "B" & "C" class.
It consists of 5 container terminals:
- Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal (JNPCT)
- Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT)
- Gateway Terminals India Pvt. Ltd. (GTIPL)
- Nhava Sheva International Gateway Terminal (NSIGT)
- Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals Private Limited (BMCT)
There is also a shallow berth for General Cargo and Liquid Cargo operated by BPCL - IOCL consortium.
Traffic figures: Approx. 64,300,000t of cargo, including 4,300,000TEU handled annually.

IMO class 1: allowed only if it is for Indian Government and provided there is no other IMO cargo in transit at JNPT. Also please note that IMO cargo will be allowed to be handled only during daylight hours and basis directly delivery, as same will not be allowed for storage at Port.
