Location: Pula is situated in the N Adriatic sea approx 80km from the Italian border, on the S tip of Istria. General overview: Pula is a small commercial, fishing and shipbuilding centre with both commercial and military berthing areas. The harbour is well protected from all winds by a breakwater. Depths at the entrance range from 15-35m, width 500m. Exports include coal, bauxite, flint, cement, wine and fruit. Imports include food and steel plate. Berths: -Rijeka Quay: Length: 150m; draft: 6.0m -Ugljen Quay: Length: 160m; draft: 6.5m -Cement Quay: Length: 146m; draft: 7.0m -Uljanik Shipyard NW Quay: Length: 270m; draft: 7.0m -North Quay: Length: 180m; draft: 6.5m Ro-Ro ramp available. Pilotage: Compulsory for vessels over 500 g.t. Pilot boards vessel off the breakwater. Anchorages: -Inner Anchorage: Vessels waiting for berth or free pratique can anchor in the outer harbour at approximately 0.4 n.m. west of the island S Andrija. In case of emergency, vessels may anchor 0.2 n.m. west of the island S Andrija. -Outer Anchorage: Positioned 1.3 n.m. SW of green breakwater light (bearing approximately 015°(T)). Traffic figures: Approx 335 vessels and 667,500t of cargo handled annually. Load line zone: Summer. Max size: Draught 7.6m, 40,000DWT.
