General Description

Location: The Port of Niigata is situated on the western coast of Honshu, opposite the island of Sadogashima. General overview: The Port of Niigata is the premier port on the northwestern coast of Japan, and is divided into two distinct areas: the West Port District (Nishi) and the East Port District (Higashi). The West Port District comprises a series of berthing areas on either side of the Shinano Kawa and its approach channels. This section of the port offers a unique character compared to the East Port District. The East Port District, on the other hand, is an artificial port that features two basins. The outer basin is situated just inside the harbor entrance and a channel leads to the inner basin. The Port of Niigata offers a range of services, including handling of general and bulk cargo. Additionally, the port boasts a large container handling facility and terminals for both domestic and international passengers, making it a hub of commerce and transportation.
