General Description
Location: Vasteras is situated at the head of Vasterasfjarden, in the W part of Malaren, about 43nm WNW of Stockholm. General overview: The port is the largest inland harbour in Sweden with modern facilities and equipment which serves a variety of small to medium-sized vessels carrying bulk, oil, general and container cargoes. Principal exports include grain, metal products, piece goods, paper and timber. Imports include coke, coal, fertilisers, feedstuffs, oil products, scrap metal, metal products, piece goods and sand. Traffic figures: Approx imports 1,600,000t, exports 500,000t, including 25,000TEU handled annually. Load line zone: Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Zone for ships of 100m or less. Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: Sodertalje Lock: Length 135m, width 19.6m and max draught 6.8m. Largest vessel handled: "Holmon", 10,400DWT, draught 6.8m.
