General Description
Location: Situated in Delaware, midway between New York City and Washington DC, Wilmington is the first inbound deep water port on the Delaware River, 65 miles from the Atlantic Ocean.
General overview: The port is North America's No 1 gateway for imports of fresh fruit, juice concentrates and palletised frozen beef. It is the largest container terminal on the Delaware River and the world's primary banana hub, with large dockside cold storage facilities. The port handles containers, fruit, juice concentrates, frozen meat, KLB, newsprint, lumber, steel, vehicles, dry and liquid bulk.
Traffic figures: Approx 4,500,000t of cargo, 810,000TEU and 400 vessels handled annually.
Load line zone: Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Seasonal Area for ships of 100m or less in length, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.
