The shipping platform

Location: Zhangzhou which lies approx 20nm W of Xiamen Island on the SE coast of China is situated where the Jiulong River meets the sea. General overview: Located in Fujian Province, Zhanghzhou is in the China Merchants Zhongyin Zhangzhou Economic Development Zone and its port areas include Shima, Zhaoyin, Zhenhai, Gulei, Zhao'an and Dongshan (see separate entry). The port, which is deep and silt free, handles mainly general cargo. Future plans are to combine the ports of Zhaoyin, Shima and Zhenhai into the port of Xiamen Bay. Import and exports handled: Cargo, grain, sugar, river sand, stones in bulk, tin plate and containers. Traffic figures: Approx 22,400,000t of cargo, 190,000TEU and 3,326,000 passengers handled annually. Load line zone: Summer. Max size: Draught 12.0m, 100,000DWT.
