General Description
Location: The port of Dumai is located on the S side of Rupat Strait, on the mainland coast of Sumatera. General overview: Dumai is mainly a crude oil shipment harbour located in Sumatera. The crude oil installations are operated by PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia and a refinery operated by Pertamina. There are also general cargo handling facilities and a large trade in the export of logs.
The port is formed from a series of jetties providing alongside berths over a 2.5nm waterfront on the S side of Selat Rupat.
At the W end of the port there is a floating dock and two mooring buoys.
There are three types of crude loaded at Dumai: Crude Type API Gravity Pour Point (+/-°F) Solid Point (+/-°F) 1. Sumatran Light 36 90 85 2. Duri 22 60 55 3. Pedada 36 90 85
Traffic figures: Approx 6,000 vessels and 6,900,000t of cargo handled annually.
Load line zone: Tropical. Max size: LOA 315m, draught 16.7m, 165,000DWT.
Under certain circumstances, in favourable conditions during daylight, CPI Oil Wharf No 2 is capable of receiving a VLCC with special arrangements.
