General Description
Location: Rosario is situated on the right bank of River Parana at Km 400.
General overview: Rosario in recent years has lost the importance of the port for the reason that more modern and efficient grain terminals have been built nearby.
The port is divided by 4 terminals:
- Puerto Rosario Terminal 1
- Puerto Rosario Terminal 2
- MOP Berths
- Grain Elevators VI & VII
- APG Terminal
- Punta Alvear
Terminals:
- Terminals 1 & 2 (Operated by Puerto Rosario S.A.)
Terminal 1 is considered a MPP terminal (Depth 9.75m).
It consists of the following:
- 2 Reach Stackers (40t)
- 1 Mobile Crane (80t)
- 1 Luffing Crane (25t)
- 6 Mobile Conveyors
- Vegetable Oil Tanks (93,000t with 2 pipelines)
(There are planning to discontinue cargo operations at Terminal 2 North berth.)
- MOP (Ministry of Public Works) Berths:
The berths are owned by the ministry and also include drydock are repairing facilities for small vessels.
- VI & VII (Depth 10.6 m // Air Draft 22 m):
- 4 Dolphins
- 2 Conveyor Belts
- Silo Capacity (210,000t)
- 8 Telescopic Chutes
Annually exports 3 million tons.
- APG Terminal (Owned by Cargill):
A new terminal for grains, by-products and vegetable oil. It consists of 4 berths. (LOA 282m // Depth 10m //Air Draft 21m)
- 1 Belt Conveyor (1,600 t/h)
- 1 20" Pipeline (1,100 t/h)
Annually exports 2,8 million tons.
- Punta Alvear (Owned by Cargill // Depth 9.7m // Air Draft 21m)
A grain terminal with 4 dolphins that can accommodate Cape size vessels. Consists of:
- 2 Conveyor Belts
- 3 Loading Arms (2,000 t/h)
- Storage 300,000t
Annually exports 6 million tons.
The port mainly handles bulk grain, foodstuffs, machinery and general cargo, containers, sugar, iron ore and bulk fertilizers.
Traffic figures: Approx. 490 vessels and 12,500,000t of cargo handled annually.
