Location: The port of Primorsk is situated on the N coast of the Gulf of Finland/Baltic Sea, opposite Bolshoy Beryesoviy Island. General overview: The port of Primorsk consists of a major oil export terminal, with recently increased shipments due to a new pipeline from Unecha. Primorsk is open for navigation all year round. Ice has to be navigated in winter. The beginning and end of ice navigation seasons are advised by the Harbour Master of Primorsk on instructions from the Maritime Port Administration of St. Petersburg, usually from the end of November up to the end of April. The port receives double hull tankers for loading. In certain cases a double bottom tanker may be permitted to call with compulsory tug assistance on the section from the island of Rodsher to the port of Primorsk. During the ice navigation tankers heading for the port must have double hull and ice strengthening category not lower than Ice 4 (1A) according to the classification of the Maritime Register of Shipping of the Russian Federation or must have the appropriate ice class of other classification societies. To obtain an ice certificate a ship owner should contact the Harbour Master in advance. Traffic figures: Approx 75,125,000t of crude oil and 740 vessels handled annually.
