General Description

Location: Civitavecchia is situated on the W coast of Italy approx 70km NW of Rome on the Tyrrhenian Sea. General overview: Civitavecchia, known as the seaport of Rome, consists of various basins protected by a long outer mole called Antimurale Colombo on the middle part of which is located the cruise vessel Pier No 12. The port offers a safe, sheltered harbour with numerous facilities for general and bulk cargo, oil products and passengers. Port Civitavecchia has a total of 8 cruise terminals, with 15 berths/quays. Cruise ships dock on the Northwest edge of the town at the Rome Cruise Terminal. A second terminal, the ADM, is for ferries and other shipping services. Besides serving cruise ship lines, there are also ferries embarking to Sardinia, Sicily, Malta, Tunis and Barcelona. The principal imports are coal, coke, cereals, phosphates, timber, scrap iron, woodpulp, newsprint, china clay, oil seeds, crude oil and steel plate. Exports include steel manufactures, chemicals, etc. The port is a centre for passenger traffic and has a passenger terminal of 2,000m². Traffic figures: Approx 8,772,170t of cargo, 33,540TEU, 553 vessels and 2,400,000 passengers handled annually. Load line zone: Summer. Loading Terminal: TRAIANA TERMINAL - quay no. 23 - Security level : 1(one) - Daily loading rate : Mt. 2500 - Draft Restriction : mtrs. 11,50. No other restrictions Loading & discharging of IMO Class 1 cargo not allowed in Civitavecchia port, nor any shifting or welding ops allowed for such type of cargo. Transiting may be allowed, subject to approval of Prefecture/Authorities after checking related documentations sent at lest 10 days in advance before vsl's arrival. Authorities may impose restrictions during the call such as compulsory fire guards on board, armed guards-vigilance, tug boat standby and so on. Class 5.1 allowed for transiting and welding if there is no Class 1 on board at the same time.
