General Description
Location: El Dekheila is situated 3.7nm W of Alexandria. General overview: El Dekheila is an extension to the port of Alexandria.

The harbor serves steelworks situated nearby. In addition, there are berths for bulk, petroleum, coal, general cargo, container, and Ro-Ro traffic. Traffic figures: Approx 1,170 vessels, 22,100,000t of cargo, and 500,000TEU handled annually.

Dekheila port is a natural extension to Alexandria Port; constructions started in 1980 and the port operated partially in 1986 by operation of minerals berth. El-Dekheila port takes the place of the former Dekheila airport westward Alexandria port with 7 km from sea and 10 km from land.

Geographical Division:
- A bay with high depths near the seaside, which lowers the decontamination coast. The north side is shallowed and includes some small islands that serve in lowering the costs of breakwater when constructed.

- Port location is near to El-Dekheila steel complex, the free zone & the project of the Electricity Generation of West Alexandria which saves transportation costs of needed raw material.
