General Description
Location: The Port of Sendai Shiogama is situated on the north eastern coast of Honshu in Miyagi Prefecture.
General overview: The Port of Shiogama is a significant cargo and fishing port located in the northeast part of Japan. It is divided into two districts, the District of Shiogama and the District of Sendai, with the Inner Harbor and the Outer Harbor.
The port has several wharves, including Zhenshan wharf with four berths, of which Berth 1 and Berth 2 can reliably berth 15000 DWT vessels. Berths No. 4 can berth 7000 ton ships.
East Wharf has three berths and is a 5000 ton wharf, while the central jetty has one 1000 ton berth and two 5000 ton berths.
The West terminal is a 1000 ton wharf. The North Bank of the harbor houses shipyards, while the Northeast bank has fishing ports and markets.
The Northeast fishing port is developing a new public terminal area with 15 deep-water berths planned for bulk cargo handling.
Although the port was damaged by the 2011 tsunami, it has now resumed general cargo and tanker operations.
