General Description
Location: Cai Lan is situated on the Cau Bai Peninsula, approx. 155 kilometers from Hanoi and 60 kilometers from Hai Phong
General overview: Cai Lan port (also known as Quang Ninh) consists of a container and general cargo quay which is due to be extended from the present single berth to a four berth deep water facility, to become the Cai Lan International Terminal (CICT). There is the large Thang Long cement factory close NW of the port with an extensive jetty for bulk and bagged products. Tanker terminal B12 is situated close SE of the container terminal.
The Quang Ninh port has a total length of 36km with a channel depth of 10 to 20 metres at different positions. The total storage facility at the Quang Ninh port has a storage area of 154,700 square metres, a warehouse of 12,700 square metres and a container yard of 142,000 square metres. The Cai Lan port of the Quang Ninh cluster is the deepest and the largest seaport in North Vietnam and is under development to handle nearly 10 million MT of cargo annually.
CICT is a deep-water seaport in Northern Vietnam, strategically located near the China border and Key Industrial Parks. The terminal started operations since August 2012 and can accommodate vessels up to 5,500 TEU or 85,000 DWT.
The main cargoes handled are containers, dry bulk and break bulk (except coal and clinker): corn, wheat, soybean meal, rice, minerals/ore, metal, steel scrap, cement jumbo bags, wood chips, wood pellets, wood planks, project cargo, heavy lifts, RoRo, vegetable oil, asphalt
Traffic figures: The port handles 5,850,000t of cargo, 204,000TEU and 400 vessels annually.
Load line zone: China Sea Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical Jan 21 to Apr 30, Summer May 1 to Jan 20.
