General Description
Location: Hon Gay faces the Gulf of Tongking and is approx 35nm from Haiphong and 60nm from the border with China.
General overview: The port handles bulk and general cargoes. There are two commercial wharves in the harbor. The North Wharf is 100 meters long and the water depth at the front is 4 - 8.6 meters; the South Wharf is 90 meters long and each wharf has two cranes. In addition, there is a "T" jetty in the south, with the top extending to the south, about 90 meters long and 6 meters deep, which exports coal for Vietnam's Hongji coal mine.
Load line zone: China Sea Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical Jan 21 to Apr 30, Summer May 1 to Jan 20.
Max size: LOA: 200 m, draught: 7.0 m at any tide, size: 12,500 DWT.
