Location: Port of Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Saigon Port, is the largest port in the south of Vietnam. Located on the west bank of Song Sai Gon, it is accessed via two channels of the Saigon and Soi-Rap Rivers. General overview: Saigon is the principal port of Vietnam. The new port of Tan Cang-Cai Mep (TCIT/TCCT) has commenced operations, this is a deep water container port for the Ho Chi Minh area at the entrance to the river, see separate entry for Cai Mep. At present, Ho Chi Minh port has three terminals: New Port, Cat Lai port and Vict port. Cat Lai and Vict are old ports, and the most modern port is New port. There are 15 main berths in Hochiminh port area, with a coastline of 2000 m long and a maximum water depth of 11 m.The handling equipment includes various shore cranes, tugs and barges. The maximum lifting capacity of the shore crane is 100 tons, and the maximum power of the tug is 1912 kW.The oil terminal is a reliable 45000 DWT oil tanker.The container terminal can store more than 1000 containers, and there are more than 10 Mooring Ships with 10000 DWT capacity.The depth of the anchorage is 13 m. Ho Chi Minh mainly exports rubber, tea, rice, coal, mineral products and agricultural and sideline products, and imports steel, grain, mechanical and electrical equipment, petroleum products, fuel, cotton and chemical products. Traffic figures: Approx 12,000,000 tonnes of cargo and 1,200,000 TEU handled annually. Load line zone: China Sea Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical Jan 21 to Apr 30, Summer May 1 to Jan 20. Max size: Saigon River: Navigable by vessels up to LOA 220m, draught 11.0m, 36,000DWT alongside; Thieng Lieng Buoy berth, 60,000DWT, depth 13.5m: Soi-Rap River: Limited to vessels with a max draught of 6.7m. IMO: IMO cargo can be discharged & loaded - Manifest & BL are to be submitted in 3- 4 days prior to arrival. Transit cargo can be accepted in all ports of Vietnam, Manifest is to be submitted in 3 days before arrival.
