General Description
Location: The Port of Iwakuni is situated at the E end of Yamaguchi Prefecture, on the W coast of Hiroshima Bay in the Inland Sea.
General overview: The Port of Iwakuni boasts deep waters, making it a suitable port for large crude oil vessels. In addition its location in the western part of Hiroshima Bay also offers a tranquil and peaceful sea for ships to dock.
The port cargo complex comprises four public wharves, each specializing in handling specific types of cargo:
- The Shozoku wharf is used for handling chemical products, sand and stone.
- The Shokou wharf is used for handling oil products.
- The Shinminato wharf is used for handling containers, paper and spinning products.
- The Muronoki wharf is used for handling wood materials and paper.
Traffic figures: Approx. 17,000,000t of cargo and 12,000 vessels visit the port annually.
