Location: The Port of Mizushima is situated on the central Inland Sea coast of Honshu. General overview: The Port of Mizushima is a vital component in the trade relationships with eastern China, playing an important role in supporting the changing fishing industry. Located in Okayama Prefecture, the Port sits on an artificial island in the Mizushima Marine Industrial Area, making it a valuable center for shipment of containerized cargo. The Port of Mizushima's Container Terminal covers 33 hectares and features two quays. The first quay is designed to accommodate container ships with a capacity of up to 30 thousand DWT and a depth of 12 meters, while the second serves ships with a capacity of up to 10 thousand DWT and a depth of 10 meters. The harbor plan aims to increase the depth to 12 meters for all quays. The Container Terminal also includes a unit load terminal, with a 16-hectare pier site and four berths with a depth of 7.5 meters, which can accommodate freighters with a capacity of up to 5 thousand DWT. The Port of Mizushima is a key player in the shipping industry and is known for its extensive facilities for handling a variety of commodities such as steel, iron ore, grain, vehicles, crude oil and chemicals. With the exception of the Mizushima Outer Harbour, the port is open and offers great potential for further growth and expansion.
