General Description
Location: The Port of Kisarazu (also known as Kimitsu) is situated in the Chiba Prefecture, overlooking Tokyo Bay.
General overview: The Port of Kisarazu comprises of three districts, Inner Harbour, Kisarazu South and Futtsu, and offers a wide range of public and private berthage facilities, catering to the local steel, chemical and lumber industries.
Kisarazu plays a vital role in the economic activities of the southern region of Chiba Prefecture, particularly in the formation of an industrial zone centered around Nippon Steel Corporation.
The Port of Kisarazu was designated as one of the "International Strategic Bulk Ports" to ensure stable iron ore transportation. The port's significance in iron ore trade was further highlighted when Vale Brazil's Valemax (402,000 DWT) visited the port.
The port specializes in handling a variety of bulk cargoes such as aggregates, general cargo, timber, raw materials and LNG for the Futtsu Thermal Power Station.
