General Description
Location: Savona-Vado is situated in the Gulf of Genoa, approx. 35km W of Genoa.
General overview: Savona and Vado Ligure are two independent basins. The Savona basin offers numerous facilities including cruise, dry bulk, steel, multipurpose and Ro-Ro vehicle berths. Regularly scheduled cruiseferries connect Savona to Corsica (Bastia, Ile Rousse), mainland Spain (Barcelona) and Morocco (Tangier-Med). The Harbour
The Harbour of Savona has a water mirror whose area is 553,000 mq articulated on three Docks well defined. The port works are protected by a breakwater of 1,500 mt. The area of the ground facilities is about 35.6 hectares with a development of 4,012 ml docks. All the harbor is covered by railway lines for about 16,600 ml.
● The old Dockyard
It mainly forms the core of the original historical Harbor, located in the bottom of the natural creek, with a total area of 16,500 square meters. The operating Zones are: 18 and 19 for mooring and parking of recreational boats with depths not exceeding 5 meters to the edge of the pier. The Zones 20 and 21 are reserved to the fishing fleet and to vessels of freight and passenger transport services. The depths are approximately 5 mtr. These four zones offer a useful length of 480 linear mtr. The Zone 11 is the private berth of the horbour tugs with depth of 7 mtr and a length of 60 mtr. 10,9,8 areas with depths of 8.7 meters and an overall length of 345 mtr. In the area 10 moor Ro-Ro ships specialized in auto transports, since they are just below the big AutoSilo. In the Zones 9 and 8 moor the ships carrying the cellulose on whose docks there is a large covered hall of Terminal Cellulosa. Zone 7/8: the head of the Harbour Town with a depth of 7 meters and a usable length of 84 mt. Zone 23, at the foot of the Tower Leon Pancaldo equipped with a slide for small boats, with a depth of 5 mtr and a length of 40 mtr. When you pass the head of the Old Harbour (Zones 7/8) on the straight side you lead into the dock New Dock.
● The new Dockyard
It has an overall water surface of 54,000 square meters. Operational areas are from 1 to 7, with variant depths from 6.5 to 8.7 mtr. Zone 1 has a usable length of 64 meters, the 2 and 3 of a total of 220 mt, 145 mt from the 4, 5 and 6 of the total of 210 meters, the 7 of 150 mt. These moorings are mainly used by coastal ships with loads composed of: General Goods, bulk Peat, Lumber, Minerals.
● Calata P.Boselli
It has moorings for 900 ml. The first of these, just out of the New Docks, is the Zone 12, which, with Zone 13, has a length of 235 ml. Zones 14,15 and 16 with overall length of 290 ml. Zone 16/A with a length of 130 ml. The depths vary from 7.5 to 10.5 meters. In the head of Calata Boselli there is located the zone 17 with a length of 74 meters and a depth of 7 meters. Zones 12,13,14 are privileged berths for ships loaded with Steel Products and related artifacts. Zones 15,16 and 16/A offer mooring for vessels with loads of rice in bags and in bulk, grain and corn. Zone 17 extends from the Old Frangiflutti (Zone 26), long 205 meters, and mainly used for mooring of vessels used in the work. In front of the exit of the Basin of New Dock there is the Zone 22. There are mooring ships with loads of coal and various minerals. The Mooring is 140 meters long with a depth of about 10 meters. . Along the water surface on the same side, there are the Zones 24 and 25.
● Deep Water Dockyard
The water mirror has an area of about 80,000 square meters. There are the operational zones 31,32 and 33. The first two areas have a total length of 460 meters with depths of 14-15 meters. Zone 33 is the inner part of the new breakwater, it is divided into three divisions: Root, Center and Head. The commercial length useful is 500 mt. Zones 31 and 32 are mainly used for loading and unloading of Containers and Forest Products / Pulp, while Zone 33 for the bosrding of vehicles located few meters away from the storage area for cars.
Vado basin has piers for the loading/unloading of coal and oil, while the Ro-Ro terminal provides ferry services connecting Vado with Corsica and Sardinia and has an annual capacity of 378,000 passengers. The reefer terminal handles and distributes fruit throughout Europe by road and rail.
Traffic figures: Approx 15,600,000t of cargo , of which 250,000TEU are handled by Reefer Terminal, 1,100,000 passengers and 2,000 vessels handled annually.
